Third time is a charm. After two years of rain, we finally enjoyed a sunny day at “A Taste of Britain.” Although the crowd was a bit smaller than in the past (clouds still threatened in the morning), we stayed dry this time. Attendance was two hundred thirty five with eighteen no-shows. Smaller than our numbers prior to the double rain outs but definitely a sign that good weather will bring out participants.
Sixty-six of our guests were first time attendees, many in new MINIs [mostly from the PhillyMinis and Carlisle Groups], just starting to discover the fun of attending shows. In addition there was the MG’s of Baltimore Club with its traditional party of revelers who overnight at the local General Sutter Inn every year.
This year’s vendor area offered custom wood gearshift knobs along with Triple-C and its usual array of clothing and accessories for participants and spectators. There was also plenty of food in the form of picnic lunches and fresh burgers, sausages, and hot dogs. With the warm weather there were also plenty of beverages to keep the crowd cool as they browsed through the rows of cars and/or watched the Polo Match.
The game was delayed a half-hour to allow the field to shed some of the heavy rain from Saturday night. Along with the excellent play there was also entertainment in the form of trick riding during the intermission as well as our traditional photo opportunity. The match ended in a tie (something about a birthday party afterward) – so both teams shared the “A Taste of Britain” Cup.
This year we featured Lotus in the event photo. It was a good opportunity to show off Bruce Bubeck’s new toy (sold his MGB and bought a 2005 Elise) next to some older classics.
The LANCO MG Club wishes to thank its many volunteers as well as our guests for making this year’s event a success. We look forward to seeing everyone who attended again next year. To those who could not make it, make sure you plan a visit next year. Until then, take care and drive safe.
